The Captains Flat Hotel opened its doors in 1937 during the mining boom and is the last survivor of five hotels. It once boasted the longest bar in the Southern Hemisphere which is still there and if you ask Kirsty she might show you.

Gunther Deix' lack of formal art education allows him the expression of individual vision without the inhibitions that often develop as a side effect of institutional training. Deix is overtly eccentric. He is the true bohemian — unabashed about living, breathing and wearing his art and its philosophy, which he has fine-tuned into a strongly individualistic and introspective device. The Outsider Gallery and Coffee Lounge offer fine food and art with a difference.

Officers are responsible for large rural areas and as a result are very mobile. Our officers are supported from the Queanbeyan Station by our specialist teams which include General Duties, Detectives, Communications, Forensics, Highway Patrol and Target Action Groups as well as two Rural Investigators (detectives designated to investigate rural crime such as stock theft, etc). A key factor to effective policing is strong community involvement whereby we rely on co-operation and communication from the community to provide the information required to effect early crime prevention, intervention and arrests.
